BARN CONVERSION, PINE FOREST, CO DUBLIN
An old hay barn is sensitively converted to a home while still retaining its character. This is an example of a Conservation project.
CLIENT BRIEF
An abandoned hay barn in a rural area was purchased by the owner who wished to convert into a home. Retaining the character of the building was deemed critical and an imaginative use of the space available was necessary to provide the accommodation required.
DESIGN
The building nestles amongst old trees and dry stone walls. Windows and doors were inserted into the existing openings with as little alteration to these as possible as they were fundamental to the character of the building. The stone floor slabs were used outside in patio areas and additional low profile roof lights were added to bring light into the interior. Chimney/hearths were added. The original roof slates were replaced.
The result is a romantic home of character which sits comfortably within the shell of the barn buildings.
